Schwann Cell Signaling in Oral Cancer Pain: Mechanistic Insights
A lecture by Dr. Yatendra Mulpuri, NYU College of Dentistry
Join the July 2026 installment of the Division of Oral and Systemic Health Sciences' Seminar Series. All are welcome, and no RSVP is required. One unit of continuing education credit is available for attendees!
This month's speaker is Dr. Yatendra Mulpuri, assistant research scientist in the NYU College of Dentistry's Translational Research Center
and Oral Cancer Center.
Dr. Yatendra Mulpuri earned a Bachelor of Dental Surgery at RV Dental College in Bengaluru, India (2006) and completed clinical training in orofacial pain management at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Dentistry (2007-2009) where he also earned a PhD in oral biology (2015).The SF O’ Kern UCLA Dissertation Year Fellowship supported his thesis work; he performed research under professors Igor Spigelman and Ichiro Nishimura to characterize novel synthetic peripherally restricted cannabinoids for chronic pain and molecular probing of neuropathic pain mechanisms. Dr. Mulpuri accepted a postdoctoral position in the Laboratory of Neuropharmacology at UCLA, directed by Dr. Igor Spigelman, where he worked for six years. During that time, his research focused on targeting cannabinoid receptors outside the central nervous system for chronic migraine treatment. His postdoctoral work also included investigation of the electrophysiological and molecular basis of neuronal plasticity in trigeminal neuropathic pain. Dr. Mulpuri is a member of International Association for the Study of Pain, Society for Neuroscience, and International Association for Dental Research. His research at NYU utilizes clinical and pre-clinical approaches to investigate neurobiological mechanisms of oral cancer pain. Dr. Mulpuri joined NYU Dentistry Translational Research Center in 2022. His career goal is investigate orofacial pain through translational research.
