Research Description:
Previously developed on validated radiotracer techniques are employed for noninvasively probing blood flow and substrate metabolism in the human heart. On-going research focuses on exploring the regulation of the coronary circulation in the human heart and on the noninvasive characterization of coronary endothelial function as a critical component in the development of atherosclerosis. In particular, research focuses on characterizing the effects of coronary risk factors, of estrogen withdrawal or of diabetes on coronary vasomotion and on defining responses to acute and chronic pharmacologic interventions that alter or restore nitric oxide bioactivity in the human circulation.
