Research Description:
The overall goal of our research program is to evaluate the clinical impact of noninvasive assessment of tissue perfusion and metabolism on management of patients with cardiac and oncologic diseases. In patients with, or suspected of having, coronary artery disease, the value of myocardial perfusion imaging at rest and during pharmacologic stress is being evaluated for detection of disease and prediction of risk for myocardial infarction or mortality. In patients with poor ventricular function, PET metabolic indices of myocardial viability are assessed for cost effective selection of the treatment plan with the highest potential for improving patient outcome (mortality and heart failure symptoms). In patients with cancer, the value of PET metabolic imaging is being studied for determining metastatic spread and for its overall impact on improving patient management at a lower cost.
